Wiebke Rabe

Wiebke A. Rabe is an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Institute of Intercultural and International Studies (InIIS) at the University of Bremen. Her research focuses on global resource politics, China’s engagement with selected countries in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, and the domestic drivers of its foreign policy. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of China Studies at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Chinese Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. She completed her PhD at the Hertie School in Berlin.

Her research has appeared in journals such as Energy Policy, Regulation & Governance, Review of International Political Economy, The China Quarterly, Environmental Science & Policy, and Resources, Conservation and Recycling. Wiebke employs a range of methodological approaches, including fieldwork, surveys, and documentary analysis. She is the author of the book China’s Provinces Go Global: Internationalization under Guided Autonomy (Routledge, 2023).
