China’s Quest for Domestic Autonomy, Creation of Global Dependencies?

In a first effort to explore China’s expanding global impact, Wiebke Rabe, Tobias ten Brink and Johannes Petry organised two workshops.

In September 2025, we met online to discuss first ideas about China’s quest for autonomy at home and its broader impact.

In February 2026, we then organised a second in-person workshop at Goethe University Frankfurt where we discussed advanced paper drafts with the aim of creating a special issue proposal. This second workshop was funded by the Institute for New Economic Thinking and the Johanna Quandt Young Academy.
